The nearest competition is the RayFlash Ring at just £189. Though the Sunpak costs more than twice that, it's still a better option and certainly feels more solid. The next models up that offer true ringflash cost around £1000, so the Sunpak unit offers surprisingly good value for money.

PZ-4000AF

Sunpak is another independent flash manufacturer with a range of flashguns in all the popular fits, offering everything from basic spec models to high-end fully dedicated guns. All the usual technology highlights are there in the Sunpak 4000AF model tested here, including a power zoom flash head, TTL flash metering to any aperture available on the lens in use, AF illuminator and flash pulse speeds from 1/500th to 1/20,000 second.

  • SUMMARY
  • The Sunpak performed well particularly given the price of the model tested here and although there is the (now familiar) drop of at the edges at 28mms and there is a lumpy shadow across the white wall shots at all zoom settings, the effect is subtle. While the evenness of the coverage could be improved overall the Sunpak 4000 AF looks to be a real cracker for the price.
